Compost driver

Reports to: Sustainable Kaipara directors

The compost driver will report to Stephanie Gibson – Director and Compost project manager.

Job Overview

2-3 Hours per week, on Mondays, located in Mangawhai.

The compost driver will collect food scraps from household clients and businesses in the Mangawhai area.

The driver will need to use their own vehicle (a ute or van is preferred for space required) and will be reimbursed mileage.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • On Monday mornings the driver will pick up the bins and bags with a list of addresses. 
  • Drive to each household and business to pick up food scraps, these are emptied into the bins – Pickups are on a Monday morning from 8am till completed, which usually takes up to 2.5 hours
  • Leave a new compostable bag for customer attached to their bin
  • Drop bins with food scraps back to the Mangawhai community garden Compost site
  • Report back any incidents or feedback to Compost manager
  • Keep detailed record of work and clear communication with directors.

Qualifications/ experience

  • Full NZ Drivers license and be a courteous and responsible driver 
  • Good communication with clients and the compost manager 
  • Willingness and ability to work alone, strong initiative
  • Strong, fit and able 

Health and safety:

  • Follow all health and safety guidelines.

Admin:

  • The Compost driver is on a contract basis and needs to be responsible for their tax requirements.
  • Invoices need to be emailed to Stephanie Gibson steph@sustainablekaipara.org 
  • Hourly rate is $25 per hour +GST (if contractor GST registered)
  • Mileage is .82 cents per km and starts from the compost site
