Good for you, Helen Dew

Sustainable Kaipara is passionate about educating our tamariki around sustainable consumption and resource recovery. Not only does this give our future decision makers and citizens the mindset we need to protect our planet, but it influences behaviour at home with children taking lessons and information home to parents.

We were delighted to read the newly released Good for you, Helen Dew! by Ali Foster and Catherine Cooper with fun quirky illustrations by Nikki Slade Robinson. Based on the wonderful real life character of Helen Dew of Carterton, this kids story book takes you through a journey of what Helen did when things got tough and resources were precious.

She grows, she mends, she lends and she shares. She makes do with what she’s got.  

It includes a fun decision tree at the end asking kids to think about ‘stuff’ and what they would do before buying something new. 

Such crucial messaging for our tamariki has never been more important. 

“Our everyday choices can have a big impact on our planet. What to buy? What to wear?  What to eat? What to do? Helen Dew has some great ideas. How about you?”
