Food Waste Minimisation

We’re on a mission to stop food waste from ending up in our landfills!

We want to help you reduce food waste AND ensure any food waste or food scraps are utilised as the incredible resource that they are – either feeding pigs, being composted, feeding worms or bokashi bins.

Tips and resources to help you minimise food waste in your home:

  1. PLAN YOUR MEALS:
Before you go grocery shopping, plan out your meals for the week. This will help you buy only what you need and reduce the likelihood of food going to waste.
  2. SHOP SMART:
Buy only what you need and avoid bulk purchases of perishable items. Check expiration dates and choose products with the longest shelf life.
  3. STORE FOOD PROPERLY:
Proper storage can extend the life of your food. Keep fruits and vegetables in the fridge, and store dry goods in airtight containers.
  4. USE YOUR LEFTOVERS:
Don’t let your leftovers go to waste! Get creative and turn them into new dishes or freeze them for later use.
  5. COMPOST:
If you do have food waste, composting is a great way to turn it into nutrient-rich soil for your garden. Avoid putting food into your general waste – it will end up in landfill, where it rots and lets off methane! More info on that here.

Just start small!
