Ways to Get Involved with Sustainable Kaipara in 2026

Starting the Year with Purpose

Kia ora koutou and happy New Year! If you’re looking for a way to give back, learn something new, or live more lightly on the planet, there are plenty of ways to get involved with Sustainable Kaipara in 2026.

Here are some simple ways to support our mahi and strengthen our community.

1. Join Our Compost Collective

Composting is one of the easiest ways to cut down your household waste and build healthy soil.
Our Community Compost Collection Service makes it simple: save your scraps, and we’ll help transform them into living, nutrient-rich compost for gardens, trees, and community spaces.

2. Volunteer Your Time (Lots of ways to get involved!)

Whether you love being outdoors, enjoy events, or have practical skills to share, there’s a place for you in our volunteer whānau.

Join the Compost Crew on Mondays in Mangawhai

Every Monday our composting team gets stuck into turning food scraps into healthy living soil. Help with mixing, turning, sorting, and learning the magic behind compost. Find out more here.

Be a Recycling Champion at Local Events

Our Recycling Champions help event-goers understand what goes where, keeping waste streams clean and reducing landfill. It’s a friendly role and a great way to meet locals while making a direct environmental impact.

Got Fix-It Skills? Volunteer at Our Repair Cafés

If you’re handy with tools, sewing, electronics, bikes, or general repairs, our Repair Day Cafés are the perfect place to share your skills.
Help give items a second life and keep useful things out of the landfill.

3. Pitch an Idea

Have an idea for a workshop, initiative, or sustainability project? We’re always open to community-led ideas. Sometimes the best projects start with a simple suggestion.

 4. Come Along to Our Events

From sustainability workshops to clean-ups and seasonal gatherings, our events are welcoming, inspiring, and a great way to connect with like-minded people. Bring a friend, learn something new, or simply enjoy being part of the community. Join our facebook community or subscribe to our newsletter to keep up to date with our events.

I’m interested sign me up!

Fill out this form and let us know how you want to get involved.
