Do you have a good idea about how we can look after our environment?? 
Do you and your family do some cool stuff at home to reduce your waste? 
Do you have a camera / phone / something to make a video on???

We are running a film competition for kids ages of  5-12, at Mangawhai Beach School! We want to see your cool ideas and the ways you are looking after the environment, through film!  There are prizes up for grabs, and the films will be shown on the big screen for everyone to see your masterpieces – so make sure you get busy film making!  Register to enter the competition.

Judging Criteria for Kids Eco Film Competition

1. Theme & Message (30 points)

  • Does the film clearly focus on an environmental issue or eco-friendly topic?
  • Is the message meaningful, educational, and impactful?
  • Does the film inspire positive action or awareness about environmental conservation?

2. Creativity & Originality (20 points)

  • Is the film unique and innovative in its storytelling or approach?
  • Does it present fresh ideas or a new perspective on environmental topics?
  • Are creative elements like humor, suspense, or emotion used effectively?

3. Technical Quality (20 points)

  • Is the film well-shot, with clear visuals and steady camera work?
  • Is the sound quality good (clear audio, appropriate background music, no distracting noise)
  • Are transitions, editing, and special effects (if used) smooth and effective?

4. Storytelling & Engagement (20 points)

  • Is the storyline well-structured and easy to follow?
  • Does it capture and hold the viewer’s attention?
  • Are the characters (if applicable) well-developed and engaging?

5. Call to Action & Impact (10 points)

  • Does the film encourage the audience to take action or think differently about the environment?
  • Are solutions or ways to help the environment presented?
  • Does it leave a lasting impression?

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF COMPETITION

1. Introduction

By entering the Kids Eco Film Competition (“the Competition”), participants and their legal guardians agree to abide by these Terms & Conditions. The Competition aims to encourage young filmmakers to create short films about environmental themes.

2. Eligibility

  • The Competition is open to children aged 5-12 years from Mangawhai Beach School.
  • Participants must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to enter.
  • Films must be original and created by the participant(s).
  • Entries must not contain offensive, inappropriate, or copyrighted content without proper permission.

3. Film Submission

  • Films must be submitted in MP4 or MOV format and must be between 30 seconds and 90 seconds long.
  • Each participant may submit 1 film.
  • Entries must be received by midnight Monday 24th March 2025.
  • Submissions should be made by upload via link on our website (to be published on the week of closing date).

4. Usage Rights

  • By submitting a film, participants grant the Competition organizers a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and distribute the film for promotional and educational purposes.
  • Films may be shared online, including on social media, websites, and other digital platforms.
  • Films may be screened at the prize-giving event and other related public or educational events.
  • The participant retains ownership of their film but agrees that the Competition organizers can use it without further permission or compensation.

5. Judging and Prizes

  • Films will be judged based on creativity, storytelling, environmental message, and technical quality.
  • The judging panel’s decision is final and cannot be appealed.
  • Prizes will be awarded in various categories.
  • Winners will be announced at the prize-giving event on Saturday 4th April 2025.

6. Privacy and Personal Data

  • Personal information collected during the Competition will only be used for administration and communication regarding the event.
  • Parent/guardian consent is required for any participant’s name, image, or work to be shared publicly.

7. General Conditions

  • The Competition organizers reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not comply with these Terms & Conditions.
  • The organizers are not responsible for any lost, damaged, or incomplete submissions.
  • The organizers may modify or cancel the Competition if unforeseen circumstances arise.
