Waste minimisation
Working to minimise waste and maximise positive solutions and impact in Kaipara.
We throw too much stuff away. It is estimated that in Aotearoa New Zealand we generate 17.49 million tonnes of waste per year, of which an estimated 12.59 million tonnes are sent to landfill. We are here to help change that! By understanding our choices when purchasing, right through to what we do with things at the end of their usable life, we can reduce what we throw away significantly.
Explore our waste minimisation mahi in detail below.
Closing the loop
Closing the Loop is the name of our waste minimisation program. Under this program we work with businesses, households, schools and community groups to educate, assist and problem solve waste.
Composting
When food and other organic materials end up in landfill they decompose, releasing methane which is 20x more harmful to the atmosphere than Co2! Composting reduces this impact.
Construction waste
Building out Waste is our program to improve construction waste systems in Kaipara. With around 4 tonnes of waste heading to landfill per house build, construction waste can do with some sorting.
Food waste Minimisation
Aotearoa wastes several tonnes of food every day, throwing out perfectly good kai! There are solutions to avoid this waste and minimise this waste.
